Looking for designer fabrics in Malaysia

*bleh* I’ve spent hours google-ing for Anna Maria Horner’s Chocolate Lollipop, Heather Bailey’s Freshcut™, Sandi Henderson’s Ginger Blossom and Joel Dewberry’s Aviary Fabric Collections. Why can’t we have this kinda fabrics in Malaysia’s store?

Aren’t they gorgeous?

If I buy all these from the overseas company, it will definitely gonna cost me bones and limbs! Err… But I absolutely fell in love with these fabrics and didn’t found any similar design here in Malaysia. Or perhaps I didn’t do enough digging?

Cost for these lovely fabrics?

I did survey the online market price for designer’s fabrics. Overall, for 100% lightweight cotton the maximum price is USD9.50 per yard (which is less 3inches than a meter). Yes, the fabrics are sold by yard, measured in 1/4 yard increments. Minimum cut for each fabrics is usually a half yard.

International Shipping, err to Malaysia?

Most of the online store that provide international shipping, use the most economical way to ship small international orders using Global Priority Mail Flat-Rate Envelopes. And delivery is within 6-10 business days but will take up longer than that due to being held by the customs. This envelope is USD13.00 each and will be able to hold 5-9 yards (based on fabrics weight, width and type).

Is there any tax charges?

I ordered a yew yards from 2 stores, and the packages arrived safely to my home in 10 days time… with NO TAX charges. *phew*

I’m not sure about this part, but there was no tax charges when ordering from these online stores. (will update this part later, still unsure bout this)

But I did call the PosMalaysia’s Customer Service, they failed to provide me good answers on these matters. *bleh

Can we get these in Malaysia’s store, I’m uncomfortable with online purchases?

I dunno bout this since I’m not in KL or any big cities and will not be able to do enough surveys. That’s why I just love shopping through online stores, it save me a lot of time. Everything is at the point of your fingers, and just hafta wait for the package to arrive. hehe

So, if you happened to know any good stores in Malaysia that carry these lovely designer’s fabrics, do leave comments yeah!! Will appreciate it so much! ???

    Just want to ask if there’s any fabric shop around K.L. where i can find nice,cute fabric(preferable with affordable price :hehe: ) ?

    It seems like everyone’s looking for fabrics by AMH, AB dan yang seangkatan =) Anyway, it’s great that you get the chance to buy em. No such luck for me as I find them too costly (shipping etc)

    I get my supply from Ikea, Kamdar, Nagoya and Harrisons. I’d say Ikea’s fabrics are of good quality to make bags. Plus they’re bright and cheery enough.

    Like everyone else, I do wish someone would sell those designer fabrics here in Malaysia.

    hey, i was also searching for buying fabrics online in malaysia..
    i guess everyone ended up at your page..hehe..i actually think that’s really cool..
    i’m kinda new at this so i never knew we could actually buy from foreign sites and have them ship here..biasanya most sites don’t go as far as shipping to malaysia kan..
    yah, ive seen a lot of pretty good cotton prints at both kamdar and nagoya..but so far nothing as good as the prints on ur site ni..
    i was also once in the US to attend my brother’s convo, we went to Wallmart which had a pretty good selection of cotton too..
    anyway, thank u so much for all the information on ur post..i think its really helpful..
    just one question though, where is nita’s fabric shop yah? i would love to visit it :)

    hi..i pun suke sgt dgn kain cotton==>slalu beli kat kamdar==>buat baju kurung+jubah+etc..suke sgt dgn amy butler==>maybe sbb i dah tua kot..i pun frust gak dgn malaysia sbb xde kedai pun yg jual kain2 cotton yg best2..TETAPI kalau ade byk skit duit pg arab street kat singapore..kain2 kat sane cantik2=SGD12 per metre==>okla…btw i suke u punye planner==>mcm nak beli la!! :-)

    akak pun suka sgt ngan kedai shambie ni, always skodeng kat sini….
    nak tanya soalan yg lain sikit yer… dkt mana senang nak cari kain felt? akak nak buat design kat tshirt my boys. susah sgt lah nak cari… btw, gambar kain kat atas tu sooo yummyy, rasa nak makan… LOL… thanks.

      owh kain felt ke? saya pernah beli dari MarinaCraft™ boleh tgk kat sini » 100% Wool Felting Fabric Packs

      Dan saya dapat tau dari Lian … Kedai Maycraft ada jual felt jugak. Tapi saya tak tau samada yg ni jenis wool atau acrylic. Kalau nk order, boleh email pihak Maycraft.

      Ada dua jenis felt dari Maycraft, RM20/meter boleh tahan murah la;

      • Printed Felt ** ada polka dots :cheer:
      • Plain Felt ** ada 37 warna

      Kalau tak silap, dekat kedai area Petaling Street pon ada jual felt gak. Atau kedai craft supplies dekat Ampang Park. Kedai depan escalator~

    Hi Shambie,
    Just wanted to add my two cents in. =) I have been finding for designer fabrics in Malaysia as well, but to no avail. But I live in Auckland throughout the year, and there’s an online marketplace (which is similar to eBay) with traders whom sell such fabrics. However, they are too costly for my measly student funds. :bawl:
    If you go to Singapore, there are much to be found and bought – the first stop should be Spotlight. If I remember correctly, it sells(or used to sell) Michael Miller fabrics. There are also lesser known designers, and overall, the fabric selection is more impressive than what one can find in Nagoya or Kamdar. I have heard that Japanese kawaii fabrics can also be found in some stores in Singapore, and occasionally, in Spotlight too.
    Here’s to hoping that someone in Malaysia will soon stock up designer fabrics! :-)

    nak tanya la.. designer fabric nih kainnya sesuai ke kalau nak buat baju kurung? comey design2 dia, sesuai utk my girl..
    sorry le saya mmg 0 dlm bab2 kain nih, very outdated…ke kain dia jenis tebal cam langsir?..camana eek nak tahu kain nipis utk buat baju, ada code ke?…hope u can help.. :-)

      as per your question, yes kain ni sesuai buat baju kurung sebab cotton dia jenis lightweight atau quilt weight cotton… dan kalau awak perasan, kain-kain amy butler memang slalu digunakan untuk buat baju, terutamanya baju untuk kanak-kanak ;-)

      biasanya cotton yang dijual online ada 2-3 jenis, antaranya Home decor weight, lightweight, quilt weight, dan juga cotton sateen.

      Kalau untuk kanak-kanak mungkin fabric dari Michael Miller, Alexander Hendry, Amy Butler dan banyak lagi :cheer: Try seach dekat Etsy.com

      u can find lace in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in KL
      price varies.. u can try all the big shops like Gulati’s, Silk Street
      and all the other shops along there

    if u’re looking for american cotton, u can go to http://cottagepatch.com... kedai ni kat ampang..opposite ampang point…kat situ memang best sebab banyak giler kain2 cotton ni and the designs are nice..maybe dlm web ni tak nampak sangat fabric ni..so u kena gi kedai tu and belek..baru puas hati :D

    I’m in brunei now and i found a shop which is exactly like cottage patch ni..and the price is a bit cheaper..it cost ard BND12 – BND15 per meter.. and i memang borong sakan :happy: so kalau2 nak pesan boleh la..i’ll be here until 4th apr :inlove: hihihi

      lala nak buat beg besar mana? saya selalu beli kain 1 ela atau 1/2 ela..untuk 1 design.
      kalau nak buat beg besar-besar kene guna kain lebih dari 1/2 ela.
      kalau beg kecik-kecik 1/2 ela boleh buat 2 clutch.

      saya pun tak pasti :P

      fyi, kain ni di jual dalam ela/yard. 1 yard harga lebih kurang $9 USD.. plus $2 charge post utk setiap 1 ela kain, so harga jadi lebih kurang RM44 lah :o ps:

      biasanya kain2 ni di kenali berdasarkan designer dan collection

      contoh;
      amy butler – midwest modern 2 – Honeycomb (Fuchsia)

      explanation:
      designer = Amy Butler
      collection = Midwest Modern 2
      pattern = Honeycomb
      swatch color = Fuchsia

      herm, code tu ada tapi orang jarang guna :P susah nak ingat agaknya^^
      biasa orang guna term macam { designer – collection – pattern – color } :happy:
      senang nak google atau nak identify

      kat kl, saya tak pasti ada jual tak. kt singapore ada.
